Vernon Lawrence is a dedicated husband, father of three and a proud member of the Arkansas community, having been raised in North Little Rock, AR and now residing in Sherwood, AR. With a deep passion for basketball and developing young athletes, Vernon has built a respected coaching career that began in 2010. He started as an assistant coach at Lakewood Middle School under the guidance of Nathan Clayborn, where he began to hone his skills in coaching and mentorship.

Throughout his career, Vernon has worked with several standout players, many of whom have gone on to have successful basketball careers. Notable players under his tutelage include Anton Beard, Kavaughn Allen, Nick Scott, Gary Vines, and JD Layton, the latter being part of the 2031 class.

 

Today, Vernon serves as the head coach of the Gorillas basketball team (2031) within the DYABL (Developing Young Athletes By Layton) organization. His commitment to teaching the fundamentals of the game, while fostering personal growth and teamwork, has earned him the respect of both players and fellow coaches alike. Vernon is not just about developing athletes on the court but also preparing them for life beyond basketball. His leadership and mentorship continue to positively influence the young players he works with, shaping both their athletic and personal futures.
